Pro's of L'BRI High Antioxidant Night Repair Treatment

This product does have some amazing antioxidants in it.  Coffee Extract is a potent antioxidant, being more effective than Vitamin C and E.  At just 0.2% it reduces free radicals by 39%.  Glycerin is a humectant and helps to keep the skin hydrated.  Aloe Vera has many positive skin benefits including accelerating wound healing.

Emblica inhibits lipid peroxidation. It is a potent antioxidant and scavenges both hydroxyl and superoxide radicals. It is also anti-inflammatory, inhibiting COX-2 expression.  Emblica fruit is extremely rich in Vitamin C and flavanoids. It contains gallic acid, egallic acid, quercertain, kaempferol.

Squalane is emollient and helps reduce TEWL.  Hyaluronic acid helps to increase hydration and reduce inflammation.  Glycosaminoglycan's are hydrating and are a natural moisturising factor of the skin.

Hydrolysed Collagen has been shown to work both orally and topically.  It is usually marine derived and stimulates collagen type 1 and 3.  It also increases the amount of hyaluronic acid produced.

Hydrolysed Elastin is a film former and helps to reduce moisture loss.  It contains polypeptides which helps to tone the skin.

Palmitoyl Oligopeptide & Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 is Matrixyl 3000.  Now this is the work horse with the antiaging here.  Matrixyl 3000 has been shown to stimulate collagen and elastin, as well as hyaluronic acid.  It reduces wrinkles by 45% in 2 months.  Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 can slow or suppress the production of excess interleukins, therefore inhibiting unnecessary inappropriate inflammatory responses and glycation damage. In vitro, scientists found that "Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 induced a marked dose-dependent reduction in interleukin production.

Green Tea, Grape seed Extract and Berries provide a potent blend of antioxidant protection.  The berries would also be antiglycation.

Cons

This product contains citrus oils which will cause pigmentation to occur with sun exposure -   Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Citrus Tangerina (Tangerine) Peel. The indiscriminate use of citrus oils is one of the drawbacks.  Essential oils are usually used to hide the odour of the product.

The waxes used in this product do not make it suitable for someone who is acne prone.  It would not present a problem for those with true dry skin however.  Ceteareth 20 is comedogenic.

Phenoxyethanol is an irritant for some people.  It is predominantly used as a replacement for parabens.

Pentylene Glycol is a skin irritant.  Pentylene glycol (1,5-pentanediol) is a preservative, humectant, and solvent that shares similar properties with propylene glycol. Therefore, it is, like butylene glycol and hexylene glycol, used as an alternative for propylene glycol because it is considered to be less irritating and lessallergenic.  However it is now emerging as a skin irritant.  This product may not be suitable for sensitive skins.

The peptides are too far down the ingredient list to be as effective as they should be.  The cosmetic waxes would not be used at much more than 3%.  Stearic acid is not used at much more than 2%.  The peptides are further down on the ingredient list which indicates that the percentage in the formula is less than 3%.  Given that the required percentage is 3-5% for the recommended amount of Matrixyl 3000.
Score

Wrinkles 5/10

Acne - Not suited

Irritancy - Use with Caution on sensitive skin

Overall View

Consumers would get some benefit form this product.  It does have a high antioxidant status which will show benefit in the skin with reduces wrinkles and a brightening of the skin.  This product would also be anti-glycation due to the berries.  The amount of Matrixyl 3000 in here is not high enough.  This is a common feature with OTC products where they use an active but in such a small percentage.
